BG Gear Sqwurel V5

Sqwurel - canyoneering rappel device with quick, simple on-the-fly friction adjustment
Sqwurel V5 has been improved. Friction settings have been reworked for modern, smaller, and slicker ropes. The low end was optimized for lighter users while maintaining a smooth progression through the higher friction settings. Heavier users benefit from additional friction at the upper end, along with a V-slot shape in Tail Hole 3 that allows friction to increase as the rope is pulled deeper into the slot. Testers around 220 lbs found they no longer needed the Behemoth tab during normal use. All tail holes now provide improved rope retention, and the rapid wrenches have been consolidated into Tail Hole 3 for easier access.

The unique tail of the Sqwurel allows friction to be adjusted quickly and easily at any point during the rappel. This flexibility is useful in a wide variety of situations, including: • Adjust friction on long rappels as needs change. • Start with maximum friction to downclimb an awkward start or swing out into the rappel then reduce friction to begin descent. • Rapidly switch friction levels while transitioning ledges. • Momentarily reduce friction while crossing a long horizontal section or pothole. • Fine-tuning friction while lowering a load.

Tail Hole 3 features a subtle V-slot shape that allows friction to vary depending on how deeply the rope is seated in the slot. Near the opening, where the slot is wider, friction is slightly lower. As the rope is pulled deeper into the narrower portion of the slot, friction increases. This provides a small but useful adjustment range within Tail Hole 3 itself, giving heavier users a little extra friction when needed while still allowing easy fine tuning of the descent.
